About Anna Pych
Where personal necessity became a professional mission.
Anna Pych is a Polish soprano, researcher, and vocal coach based in the United Kingdom, specialising in making Polish vocal repertoire accessible to non-native speakers. Born in Warsaw, she moved to the UK and pursued conservatoire training, completing her bachelor’s degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and continuing her studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Anna’s work on Polish phonetic transcription began during her undergraduate studies, when she started creating materials for her own singing lessons and coaching sessions. This personal practice soon revealed a wider gap: Polish vocal music was underrepresented outside Poland not for lack of interest, but for lack of accessible resources for singers who do not speak the language. Conversations with singers at different career stages confirmed a clear demand for support in this repertoire — support that simply did not exist.
This realisation shaped a sustained programme of research and development, carried out over several years and multiple iterations, from early prototypes to a simplified system of phonetic notation designed specifically for singers. Anna’s research has been supported by the Creative Enterprise Development Office and language coaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as funding from the Scottish Government’s Converge Awards. She has coached singers preparing for major engagements, including participants of the International Stanisław Moniuszko Competition, and is currently developing a PhD proposal at the intersection of music, pedagogy, linguistics, and phonetics.
Alongside her research, Anna maintains an active performing career as a soprano, praised for her vocal agility and emotional intensity across both contemporary and classical repertoire. Recent engagements include L’Enfant et les sortilèges with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in the role of Le Feu.

Sing Polish is a growing database of phonetic transcriptions and translations for Polish vocal music, developed to make this repertoire practical and approachable for singers, coaches, and pianists worldwide. Each entry combines a word-for-word translation, a phonetic transcription using a notation system developed specifically for efficient, accurate use by non-Polish speakers, and an audio recording of the text spoken both syllable by syllable and at natural speed, with timestamps aligned to the accompanying sheet.
The transcriptions reflect the language as it is actually sung, rather than a dictionary ideal, making them suited to direct use in the practice room and coaching studio. The catalogue is under continuous development, with new repertoire added regularly and further pieces created on request.
Now developing alongside a growing technical team, the project reflects years of dedicated research into Polish diction pedagogy, with the aim of making one of the most expressive vocal repertoires in the world finally within reach.
